What would your family or friends do if you were suddenly unable to handle your own affairs?

Most people have not asked themselves this question, as we tend to associate being mentally incapable with those who are later on in life. However, many people find themselves in the position of having to care for a relative or friend, who has not considered this question, and due to unforeseen circumstances are temporarily or permanently unable to handle their own affairs.

The Mental Capacity Act makes it possible for you to appoint a legally authorised person, chosen by you, to manage your financial affairs should you become incapable of doing so.

None of us likes to think about a time when we might become incapable of looking after ourselves. But it is important to consider the burden that would fall on the people we care about if this should happen.

For further information on managing someone else's affairs you can download the Fact Sheet below.
