Pensioners' Committee

LTU’s Pensioners’ Committee represents the interests of pensioner members and meets regularly.

Derek Rundle (Chairman)

Derek joined Lloyds Bank in 1955 and initially worked in Lloyds Bank International. In the late 1970s Derek became manager of London Accounts and Statistics in the Chief Accountants Department after a period of working in France, this is where he worked until retirement in 1987. Derek now volunteers as a driver for a local charity, enjoys watching Essex cricket and now acts as Chairman of the LTU Pensioners’ Committee.

Alexander Motts

Alec joined Lloyds Bank in 1962 at Norwich and progressed through several branches before becoming Senior Manager at Lowestoft in 1989. Alec joined the Pensioners’ Committee soon after retiring. He has been the President and Chairman of the Cambridgeshire Rugby Football Union, as well as being involved in grass roots rugby for over 30 years. He plays golf regularly, is a member of the Cambridge Rutherford Rotary Club and spends a lot of time with his six grandchildren.

David Leigh

David joined Lloyds Bank in 1964 at Hatfield as the youngest 1st Cashier at just 18 years old. David continued in his role as cashier working in Welwyn Garden City and Pole Green, during the 1966 World Cup. During the World Cup David presided over the spending money for the French, Argentinean and German football teams.

After this David relocated to Sussex and continued in his role as cashier in numerous branches, retiring from the Bank in 1997 due to ill health.

John Sykes

John joined Lloyds Bank in 1970, first in a cashiering role and finally as Principal in the Foreign Services Department which he retired from in 1999. Throughout his 29 years of service John has been involved in several of LTU’s committees and is now on the Pensioners’ Committee. In retirement John is an active member of both the Huddersfield Methodist Choir and the University of the Third Age Choir. He is also the treasurer of Blackley Baptist Church and enjoys gardening.

Bridget Paish

Bridget joined Lloyds Bank in 1972 and specialised in Charged Securities and Foreign Exchange for the majority of her service. In 1999 Bridget moved to the Local Securities Centre where she retired from the Bank in 2002.

In her retirement Bridget enjoys working in her garden and on the allotment, walking with her dogs, as well as those of the Cinnamon Trust, for which she is a volunteer. Bridget enjoys working with various textiles, such as spinning, weaving and embroidery, which she uses to relax.

Victor Knight

Victor retired in 1988 after 27 years of service working for Lloyds Bank. His last position was at Cheshunt branch as an Assistant Manager.

In retirement he plays bowls, indoor and outdoor and has acted as Captain, Treasurer and Press Officer for his club. He is also a keen bird watcher and works as a Management Volunteer at his local RSPB reserve, this involves path maintenance, maintaining the fences and other landscape management issues.

Donald Gates

Don joined Lloyds Bank in 1960 at Kingsway London College where he studied and passed the Chartered Institution of Bankers Qualification. He was first appointed as a Sub Manager in 1969 and quickly progressed to become a manager in various branches throughout his 33 years of service for the Bank.

In retirement he enjoys cycling and plays golf, as well as being a keen gardener and reader. He is an active member of the Royal Air Force Association and helps in the role as cashier for two local churches.

Although retired for 16 years, he still follows the Banks performance with interest and is greatly concerned for the wellbeing of all staff, most importantly retired and pensioner members.

Stanley Finney

Stan worked for Lloyds Bank for 39 years as a messenger in various Head Office Departments and retired as Head Messenger for City Office in 1991. In retirement Stan spends his time building kit cars, wooden model square rig sailing ships, and touring in a motor home.

John Ayris

John joined Lloyds Bank in 1968 and performed various roles during his service, including clearing’s audit, data preparation, Visa card support and project management. John has been a lifelong member of LTU and has served on Area Committees, General Council and now sits on the Pensioners’ Committee. In retirement John enjoys growing vegetables and taking photographs. He is also actively involved with the Fraud Squad at New Scotland Yard in combating Internet fraud.

Pauline Downes

Pauline joined Lloyds Bank in 1959 at Norwich Branch and from here went on to work at East Dereham and Sidney Street Branches in Cambridge in the role as Assistant Manager. She then progressed to Manager at both Huntingdon and Saffron Walden Branches where she retired in 1993. In her retirement she is a Director at her local golf club and enjoys playing golf and traveling.
