Members will know that LTU is campaigning vigorously for improved pay protection for Telephone Banking Advisers who lost out following the introduction at the end of last year of a new Salary and Grading Structure. This involved earlier this month a conciliation meeting at ACAS under the Union-Bank Disputes Procedure.
The Advisers who have missed out most are longer-serving and more experienced staff, together with those condemned to the lowest-paid Service Adviser grade at sites such as Solent.

LTU and the Bank met last week at Sunderland Contact Centre to discuss how sickness is being managed and to ensure that staff are treated in accordance with the Bank’s Sickness Management and Persistent Short-Term Absence (PSTA) policies.

Whilst in December many new Telephone Banking Advisers justifiably received significant pay increases, longer-serving and more experienced Telephone Banking Advisers have been left facing the prospect of many years wih little or no pay increase at all!
This means substantial cuts in their standard of living over a period of time.
LTU’s campaign on behalf of those Telephone Banking Advisers who lost out because of the new Salary Structure enters a new phase this coming Friday, when the Union and Bank have a conciliation meeting at ACAS.

LTU understands from member feedback that a number of Telephone Banking Staff have been instructed to work additional days or hours to make up for time they may not have been required to work over Christmas and New Year.
Senior Management within the business unit has accepted that this may well have been the case.

Last week’s announcement concerning the introduction of a new Grading and Salary Structure in Telephone Banking was good news for many Advisers ... with many due to receive large pay increases with their January salaries.
These increases followed an LTU campaign over the past year, in which our Newsletters exposed how poorly Telephone Banking Advisers have been paid compared to other companies’ Call Centres.
But whilst many Telephone Banking Advisers will be receiving Pay Increases, others - and particularly those working at the West Midlands, Swansea, Solent, Brighton and Southend Centres - face the prospect of downgradings and real cuts in their pay.

Senior Management have announced a new Grading and Salary Structure for Telephone Banking that will lead to significant automatic Pay Increases for many Advisers, but cuts in real pay and downgradings for many others.
The biggest victims of these changes are those Advisers who:
* Are presently graded at Band 7
* Are based in the West Midlands and Swansea Contact Centres
* Are based at the Solent, Southend or Brighton Centres
* Are on the highest Effective Levels.
As we explain in this Newsletter, many of these staff will suffer significant cuts in their real pay.

LTU has reached agreement with the Bank that will lead to large Pay Increases for many Telephone Banking Advisers.
It will mainly benefit Band 8 Advisers in the following Centres:
* Bridgend
* Newport
* Sunderland
* Glasgow
This is a major breakthrough for LTU, which has been alone in campaigning for better Pay in Telephone Banking. It will mean that on 31st December, many Telephone Banking Advisers will have their pay increased by over £700.

The Bank has increased Pay Rates for all new staff working in four of its Telephone Banking Centres.
These plans for limited pay increases in Telephone Banking involve starting salaries for Tier 1 Band 8 Advisors automatically increasing by £581, with effect from 1st September both to new starters and staff who are currently at the Entry Level of the Effective Levels system.
However, these increases will apply only to staff at Bridgend, Newport, Sunderland and Glasgow.
