Registrars Pay – Some Success But Far More Progress Needed
|
Date: 18th Mar 2003
LTU has thrown its full weight in to campaigning for ‘Fair Pay Now’ for Registrars Staff based in Worthing, where in real terms Pay Levels are amongst the worst across the whole of Lloyds TSB.
Shortly after the Bank announced its planned pay increases for 2003, Management buckled under pressure from LTU and agreed to guarantee that all Registrars Staff would be paid no less than 90% of their Market Indicators. This is something LTU had been campaigning for over the last two years.
However, though this concession marked an important success for the Union’s campaigning, the overall pay position of Registrars’ Worthing Staff still remains far short of what LTU considers acceptable.
Quite simply, the Market Indicators for Worthing Staff – working in an area of escalating living costs – are far too low.
Over the last four years, the Market Indicator in Worthing for Band 8 Staff has increased by a mere 4.8% (£550), and for Band 7 Staff fallen by 5.1% (£750). This despite the fact that over the same period price inflation has risen by 7.9%, UK Average Earnings by 13.7% and local House Prices have rocketed by 78.9%.
LTU is insisting that the Band 8 Market Indicator must increase to £13,360, and for Band 7 Staff to £15,360.
The Union has been encouraged by the considerable support its ‘Fair Pay Now’ campaign has received from Worthing Staff and is confident that with the full backing of members it will eventually achieve its goal of significant increases to the Market Indicators.
