AWD Staff In Chatham & Edinburgh
|
Date: 8th Apr 2003
IT staff in Chatham and Edinburgh whose job it is to support and develop Scottish Widow's automated workflow system are seeking pay parity. For almost 18 months the staff in Chatham have been arguing that they should be on IT pay bands rather than clerical bands because of the technical nature of their work. The staff were told originally that Scottish Widows couldn't afford to move them on to IT bands. When that didn't work, they were then told, in a threatening manner, that if they did go across onto IT bands, it would be at the lowest band possible and they would be financially worse off.
LTU raised this issue with Scottish Widows at a meeting 3 months ago but despite being promised answers to the questions they raised these have not been forthcoming. LTU also asked to see a copy of the job description for this group of staff but the one they were subsequently provided with was significantly different to the one agreed by the staff in Chatham. The only response LTU have had to date from SW is that they don't know why these staff are not on IT bands. LTU have said that such an off-hand explanation, after 3 months of waiting, is unacceptable. Discussions between the parties are continuing.
