Re-Engineering Project – Workflow Explained
|
Date: 25th Nov 2003
Since the Registrars Re-Engineering Project (RRP) was announced in September, concern has been growing over job security and other implications of the Bank’s plans.
RRP will be introduced over a three-year period and involves the digital scanning of documents in order to cut out the use of paper and facilitate a more automated work management system.
In other parts of the Bank where “Workflow” - a system where paper documents are imaged and categorised - has been introduced, it has seen job reductions of some 30%. Furthermore, the system also raised Health & Safety and Pay implications.
The intention to move work to India has also been an important issue for staff. They realise that once “Workflow” is fully in place, it will be possible to process the work they do anywhere in the world. Although Registrars has repeatedly sought to suggest it has no plans to send work to India, LTU has called on the Bank to guarantee that there will be no compulsory redundancies from RRP, and a guarantee that no work will be exported in the future.
