LTU Rejects New Arrangements For Saturday Working
Date: 11th Mar 2004
Staff in Jersey and the Isle of Man have received a letter from Lloyds TSB (Offshore Banking) telling them that the current arrangements for Saturday working is to be replaced by a system of flat payments based on 90% of the Island’s Market Indicators for 2003.

Under these new proposals many of the staff who currently volunteer to work on Saturdays will be significantly worse off if they continue.

A flat rate of pay for Saturday working runs contrary to the rules set out in the Staff Manual, which says: "For all.... employees higher rate overtime payments will be made for non-contractual hours worked on a sixth or seventh day in a week."

Mark Brown, Assistant General Secretary of LTU, said that “Lloyds TSB want to reduce costs, but the fact is that double time is what these staff are entitled to and double time is what they should get.”.

LTU’s discussions with Offshore Banking are continuing.
