Enhanced Protection Agreed for IT Staff
|
Date: 2nd Aug 2004
From the 2nd August staff will be told the outcome of the grade alignment process at their 1:1 interviews. LTU has said that the Career and Performance Framework element of the Improving IT Program will only be successful if staff feel that they have been aligned to the new grading structure fairly. The Union's IT Negotiating Committee are satisfied that the overwhelming majority of Group IT staff will either be better off under the new structure or at least no worse off. Inevitably with an exercise of this scale there will be a number of staff who feel that they have been aligned to the wrong grade and those individuals will have the opportunity to use the agreed Appeals Procedure, with representation from LTU for members at every stage. If their appeal is ultimately unsuccessful then individuals will be subject to the enhanced protection policy agreed by LTU and Group IT.
As a result of the grade alignment process there will be a number of staff who will have been allocated to a grade that will provide them with benefits or a salary range which is less than they currently enjoy. IT Staff in that position will be able to use the Appeals Procedure if they think they have been wrongly graded. Group IT have also said that it will help individuals to find an alternative role at the right level.
If no suitable role can be found or an appeal is unsuccessful then the individual is subject to the Group's Protection and Pay Allowances Policy. This policy protects pay for 3 years and benefits until the end of 2006.
However, following further discussions, LTU and Group IT have agreed that the protection offered by the Pay and Allowances Policy will be enhanced from the normal 3 years, which has applied in all other reorganisations carried out by the Group, to 5 years. Additionally we will review every year the number of staff subject to protection to ensure that every effort is being made to find staff alternative roles at the right level.
Mark Brown, Assistant General Secretary, said that “Our discussions over the last few months have been both open and constructive and Group IT has changed its position on a number of key issues in response to our concerns.”
