Group IT Appeals Procedure Update
Date: 4th Nov 2004
LTU and Group IT agreed to set up a joint Appeals Panel consisting of 2 LTU and 2 Group IT representatives to review all grading appeals that require LTU representation. It will be the responsibility of the Appeals Panel, which will operate on the basis of unanimity, to decide whether appeals are successful or not. For Cheltenham & Gloucester IT staff, LTU and Group IT have agreed that those appeals, of which there are 27, will be heard using a revised appeals process that provides for LTU representation at every stage of the process.

Mark Brown, Assistant General Secretary, commenting on the process said that “We had hoped that the Appeals Panel process could be used for all staff in Group IT but the C&G Staff Association, who have been semi-detached from the whole pay and grading negotiations, had sought to insist that C&G IT appeals should be heard by an Appeals Panel consisting of just the Staff Association and Senior Management.” He said

“For LTU members in the C&G such an approach was totally unacceptable.”

Of those staff appealing, 96, the overwhelming majority of those requesting union representation, have said that they want to be represented by LTU.

The Appeals Panel hearings will take place between 11th and 19th November. LTU would expect members to be notified of the outcome of their appeals towards the end of November.
