Don't Be Fobbed Off

Date: 9th Apr 2009
All staff should have been informed of their pay awards for 2009. Whilst most Line Managers have communicated these awards verbally few have sat down with their staff in 1:1 meetings to explain the rationale for their awards. Only last week the Bank reiterated the importance of these meetings to Line Managers when it told them “It is important that you communicate this year’s pay awards to individuals on a 1:1 basis”.
Mark Brown, Assistant General Secretary, said “These individual conversations not only provide members of staff with the ability to understand fully and grasp the reasons behind their pay awards for 2009, it also enables them to understand how their target salary positions and their salaries are going to be managed over the next few years”.
What is different for 2009 is that in the past Line Managers have been able to hide behind the Pay Pot and haven’t had to explain their decisions in any detail let alone talk about the future. This year the pay decision process has been revolutionised for the benefit of staff and Line Managers alike, in the form of structured 1:1 conversations.
